Chocolate Covered Strawberries and a Valentine’s Day Blog Hop

Chocolate Covered Strawberries Recipe

It’s that time of year. If I were in the States right now I’m sure I would be inundated with chocolates packaged in red hearts, balloons shaped like hearts, and stuffed animals holding hearts. I am not against anything that celebrates love, but I do think people get a little carried away on Valentine’s Day. My husband and I have never once celebrated it. Rather than acknowledging our love on a random day that Hallmark has chosen with millions of other couples, we opt to love and appreciate each other every day and have an especially nice meal on our anniversary. In high school and college my girlfriends and I (even when we had boyfriends) would go out for a nice Valentine’s Day dinner. Now that’s my idea of V-Day.

Β

So, although I don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day in the traditional romantic sense, I like to use it as a day to show appreciation for my friends and family. And I can’t resist all the wonderful treats that pop up this time of year. Are you sick of chocolate covered strawberries yet? I don’t think I could ever be. They feel so special but are so easy to make at home! And they involve my favorite combination: fruit and chocolate. Check out Just One Cookbook’s version with white chocolate and a pretty milk chocolate drizzle! (BTW I have to apologize – these are not my best photos…)

If I were to serve a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner, then I would certainly start with my favorite cocktail – the Negroni – which is appropriately red from the bitter Campari. I’d serve it with my Raclette Fondue because, well, nothing says V-day quite like fondue. The main would have to be Tagliatelle with Shrimp and Champagne Butter Sauce accompanied by – what else? – flutes of Champagne. And we would finish up the meal with my Spiced Chocolate Pots de Creme with Candied Bacon and Maple Whipped Cream. Oh, and of course these chocolate covered strawberries. Hmmm I may have to celebrate Valentine’s Day just to have that meal!

Chocolate covered strawberries are romantic and elegant, and so easy to prepare at home! Make them for friends, family, lovers, or coworkers - there isn't anyone who won't appreciate them! And they're a great gluten free dessert!

Recipe Type: Dessert
Yield: Makes 12
Ingredients
  • 4 ounces dark chocolate
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 12 strawberries, washed and thoroughly dried
Directions
  1. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Gently melt the chocolate and butter in the microwave or in a small pot over low heat, stirring often. Remove from the heat.
  3. Hold a strawberry by its stem and dip the fruit in the melted chocolate so it is coated almost to the stem (you can also skewer it with a toothpick if that helps).
  4. Transfer to the prepared baking sheet and continue with the remaining strawberries.
  5. Put the baking sheet in the fridge for at least 30 minutes or until the chocolate has hardened.

Nothing is better than sweet fruit dipped in chocolate-especially strawberries-yum! Yours do look stunning. There sure are a lot of yummy links here to choose from also!
Still not sure of the Valentine’s plans, but it is coming up fast-enjoy the weekend.

You can’t go wrong with chocolate covered strawberries! Yours look delicious! I know it might seem strange, but I linked up my garlic soup as a Valentine’s Day recipe. Since garlic is somewhat of an aphrodisiac I thought it appropriate. Luckily the hubby and I both love garlic and this soup, so having it on Valentine’s Day would not be a problem! πŸ™‚ He always cooks for me on V Day, so this might be what he has planned. I don’t know yet. πŸ™‚

My hubby dipped strawberries for me last year — it was amusing to watch because while I may run The Chocolate Cult he apparently pays little attention to everything I’ve been learning and experimenting with over the years.

I was waiting for your Friday Blog Hop and I do every week! Katherine, thanks for the kind mention. πŸ™‚ To me, dark chocolate ones are the best matching chocolate to compliment sweet strawberries (is that how you say in English? Sorry if it doesn’t make sense). I love your selections of Valentine’s Day dinner. They all look yummy!

Valentines is also my anniversary, so I get admittedly sappy about it. I love the holiday a lot. My kids will be swimming in heart shaped foods all day and we’ll be sure to have chocolate strawberries and champagne later as well. There is also an awesome almond cake that I’ve been keeping my eye on as well… YUM!

Katherine these are wicked, but wicked in a good way. It’s V-Day overload here in Canuckland. I am not the sentimental type so it’s making me all kinds of nauseated. Lol! I have not linked up to your parties yet so I think today is the day I start. I think the popcorn is the way to go. Cuz nothing says I love you like a movie with chocolate popcorn. xx

Thank you for doing these round-ups πŸ™‚
While we don’t really “celebrate” valentines day – Grumpy does treat me pretty good. πŸ™‚

Congrats Miss Katherine on top 9 today. So happy to be in your company and btw enjoy the desert a bit for me. It is my most favorite part of Israel though I do love it all there! Well, maybe not all, like not waiting for peeps to get off the elevator. lol. These chocolate dipped strabwerries are perfect for Valentine’s Day.

Loving your Valentine’s Day menu – especially that pasta, yum! I am entirely of the same belief about V-day, but I can get behind a holiday that inspires me to bake heart-shaped desserts – they are terribly cute – heehee!
